Steelers - Roosters 02.09.2022

Kuopio Steelers selätti Helsinki Roostersin perjantai-iltana Väinölänniemellä pelatussa välierässä. Puhdas 28-0 (14-0) voitto vie Steelersin Vaahteramalja XLIII-otteluun, joka pelataan joukkueen kotikaupungin Väre Areenalla 10.9.

Helsinki Roosters lähti haastamaan ennakkosuosikkina peliin lähtenyttä kotijoukkuetta tosissaan perjantaina. Nuoren joukkueen suoritusten taso on kehittynyt peli peliltä kauden aikana ja lauantaina osa veikkaajista uskoi Roostersin kykenevän horjuttamaan Steelersin ylivoimaa. Junioripitoisesta haastajajoukkueesta kasvoi yhdessä kesässä potentiaalinen loppuottelujoukkue.

Ottelun ensimmäinen neljännes päättyi maalittomana, mutta toisella jaksolla Vaahteraliigan tehokkain keskushyökkääjä Le’Anthony Reasnover aloitti shown, jonka lopputuloksena neljä touchdownia ja miehen kauden neljäs valinta ottelun Vakuuttavimmaksi Pelaajaksi.

Roosters oli parsinut sairastuvaltaan kentälle useampia ratkaisupelaajia, joilta viikon takainen peli jäi väliin. Pelinrakentaja Bryce Stancombe johti alussa Roostersin hyökkäystä, mutta ei yltänyt Väinölänniemellä parhaimpaansa. Stancombe onnistui löytämään laiturinsa ainoastaan viidellä 18 heitostaan.

Roostersin kauden 2022 lopun alku käynnistyi toisen puoliajan alussa. Stancombe joutui jättämään kentän johdettuaan peliä vielä yhden draivin verran. Pelinrakentajan paikalle siirrettiin nuori Lassi Pajarinen, joka taisteli itselle vieraalla pelipaikalla urheasti, mutta lopputulos oli väistämätön. Pajarisen johtama ensimmäinen QB-draivi päättyi syötönkatkoon Steelersin Roni Laineen syliin. Roostersin kakkos-QB Ambro Urjanson oli kirjattu peli ennakkorosteriin Stancomben varamieheksi, mutta Kuopiossa miestä ei nähty kentällä.

Ottelun ehdoton hahmo oli liigan paras keskushyökkääjä Reasnover. Yhdysvaltalainen sai pallon kainalonsa 28 kertaa, eteni juosten125 jaardia ja teki kaikki pelin touchdownit. Juoksupelien lisäksi Reasnover oli pelin tehokkain heittojen kiinnottaja. Kuudella kopillaan Reasnover kuljetti joukkuettaan eteenpäin 84 jaardia. Luku on vain neljä jaardia vähemmän, kuin koko Roostersin heittohyökkäyksen keräämä jaardimäärä.

appio merkitsi Roostersille kauden päättymistä. Steelers ylsi voitolla unelmansa ensimmäiselle tasolle. Joukkue pääsee pelaamaan Suomen mestaruudesta kotiyleisönsä edessä. Lauantaina ratkeaa, kuka Vaahteramalja XLIII-ottelussa asettuu haastamaan kuopiolaisen mestaruusjunan.

Helsinki Roostersilla on vakaa aikomus matkustaa Kuopioon kolmena perättäisenä viikonloppuna. Suunnitelma toteutuu, jos helsinkiläiset onnistuvat kukistamaan hallitsevan mestarin perjantaina Väinölänniemellä.

Amerikkalaisen jalkapallon ensimmäisessä välieräpelissä ovat vastakkain Helsinki Roosters ja Kuopio Steelers. Mestaruutta puolustavalla Steelersilla on pelissä panoksia tavallista enemmän. Vaahteraliigan loppuottelu Vaahteramalja XLIII pelataan viikon kuluttua Kuopion Väre Areenalla ja Steelers haluaa juhlia kolmatta perättäistä mestaruuttaan kotiyleisönsä edessä. Ensin pitäisi raivata tieltä vaikea vastustaja Helsingistä.

Roosters lähtee välierään altavastaajan asemasta, mutta runkosarjan viimeisen kierroksen peli Väinölänniemellä antoi myrskyvaroituksen kaikille Steelersin helppoa ylikävelyä odottaville. Helsinkiläiset taistelivat hienosti ilman ulkomaalaisvahvistuksiaan ja ottelun lopputulos 31–14 (17–14) ei kerro kaikkea pelin luonteesta.

Roosters lähtee välieräpeliin kauden parhaalla kokoonpanollaan. Ykköskorin pelaajista poissa on ainoastaan laitahyökkääjä Aymeric Nicault, jonka kausi on ylävartalovamman takia paketissa. Pelinrakentajan paikalla avaa Bryce Stancombe ja molemmat puolustuksen takakentällä pelaavat yhdysvaltalaispelaajat, Emory Polley ja Nolan Bernat ovat mukana kokoonpanossa. Bernat ei ole kirjattuna avauskokoonpanoon, mutta tulee varmasti esiintymään välierässä, jos kunto pelaamisen kestää.

Roosters-puolustuksen koordinaattori Kalle Karppinen on ryhmittänyt linjansa avauskokoonpanossa kolmen miehen muodostelmaan ja pääosin linjassa pelannut Camille Gruel aloittaa tukimiehen paikalla Taavi Aronpään, Niklas Lagströmin ja August Wahlsteinin rinnalla. Helsinkiläiset tietävät, että Steelersin voittaminen edellyttää liigan kovimman juoksukoneen pysäyttämistä. Nyt on se aika kaudesta, kun yllätyskortit kaivetaan esille vastustajan lannistamiseksi.

Reasnoverille 31 touchdownia runkosarjassa

Kuopio Steelers on pelannut vakuuttavan, välillä lähes tylsän kauden otteluiden jännitystä mittarina käytettäessä. Joukkueen juoksuhyökkäys on tilastoissa omalla sataluvullaan ja hyökkäyksen moottori, keskushyökkääjä Le’Anthony Reasnover on Vaahteraliigan maalipörssin yksinäinen ykkönen. Kaikkiaan Steelers on tehnyt kaudella 77 touchdownia, joista Reasnoverin toimesta 31. Luku on komea, mutta myös huomion kohde helsinkiläisten puolustussuunnitelmassa.

Steelers saa välieräpeliin jalkeille täyden rosterin, jossa kaikki avainpelaajat on parsittu kasaan kauden toistaiseksi tärkeimpään peliin. Alkukauden aikana päävalmentaja Pekka Utriainen tarjoili katsojille ja vastustajan valmennukselle laajan variaation pelikirjansa parhaista sivuista. Erityisesti sisempien laitahyökkääjien hyödyntäminen heittopeleissä osoittautui vaikeaksi pysäyttää monelle. Nyt kuviot alkavat olla tuttuja vastustajille ja perjantaina Utriaisen pelikirjasta avataan todennäköisesti niitä seuraavia sivuja.

Steelers ja Roosters ovat kohdanneet kaudella kaksi kertaa. Vaahteraliigan avausottelussa toukokuussa Steelers voitti lukemin 20-49. Viikko sitten Väinölänniemellä voitto niin ikään Steelersille lukemin 31-14 ottelussa, jossa Roosters-pelinrakentajana pelasi Ambro Urjansson.

Taistelu finaalipaikasta potkaistaan käyntiin Kuopion Väinölänniemellä perjantaina klo 18:30.

Kuopio Steelers selätti Helsinki Roostersin perjantai-iltana Väinölänniemellä pelatussa välierässä. Puhdas 28-0 (14-0) voitto vie Steelersin Vaahteramalja XLIII-otteluun, joka pelataan joukkueen kotikaupungin Väre Areenalla 10.9.
