Roosters – Crusaders 30.06.2022

Helsinki Roosters otti nihkeän voiton taisteluhaluisesta United Newland Crusadersista. Helteisellä Velodromilla pelattu ottelu päättyi Roostersin voittoon lukemin 42–28 (16-21).

United Newland Crusaders saapui tosissaan haastamaan Roostersin helsinkiläisten kotikattilaan Velodromille. Joukkue siirtyi ensimmäisellä neljänneksellä jo 14-0 johtoon, ennen kuin Roosters rupesi saamaan rivejään ojennukseen. Edelleen niukalla rosterilla peliin lähteneet lohjalaiset onnistuivat roikkumaan johdossa ja voitossa kiinni aina kolmannen neljänneksen viimeiselle minuutille, jolloin kotijoukkue onnistui pusertamaan itsensä ensimmäisen kerran johtoasemaan.

Ottelu toimi Roostersin juoksupelin eräänlaisena kunnianpalautuksena nuorten keskushyökkääjien kuljettaessa palloa eteenpäin yhteensä 150 jaardia.  Lassi Pajarinen keräsi jaardeja eniten ja onnistui kertaalleen maalinteossa. Keskushyökkääjien lisäksi pelinrakentaja Bryce Stancombe kunnostautui juoksuillaan tärkeillä hetkillä. Jaardeja miehelle kirjattiin vain 29, mutta kaksi pelinrakentajan 11 juoksusta päätyi maalialueelle saakka. Roostersin alkukauden tuloksekkain keskushyökkääjä Aatu Mikkonen otti pelin lopulla kolhuja ja joutui jättämään pelin kesken.

Roosters-puolustuksessa Niko Kuikka teki komean paluun kentille napaten kertaalleen vastustajan heiton haltuunsa. Toinen syötönkatkossa onnistunut Roosters-puolustaja oli Ville Rontu.

Ottelun Vakuuttavimpana Pelaajana palkittu laitahyökkääjä Johannes Jauhiainen oli Roostersin ahkerin kiinniottaja seitsemällä kopillaan. Miehen nimiin merkittiin kaksi touchdownia. Eniten jaardeja keräsi paluun pelaavaan kokoonpanoon tehnyt Aymeric Nicault, joka otti pallon kiinni vain kaksi kertaa, mutta eteni kopeillaan komeasti 116 jaardia ja teki yhden TD:n.

Roostersin alkukauden murheena ovat olleet pudotetut pallot. Hyvän pelin pelannut Roosters-pelinrakentaja Stancombe kertoi pelin jälkeen olevansa tyytyväinen peliin ja laituriensa suorituksiin.

Crusaders jaksoi melkein kolme neljännestä

Torstain helteessä pelatussa pelissä joukkueiden reservit olivat ratkaisevassa roolissa. Kahteen suuntaan pelanneiden Crusaders-pelaajien uupuessa, kotijoukkue onnistui tekemään pelin neljä viimeistä touchdownia. Lohjalaisten kaksi ensimmäistä neljännestä näytti hyvältä ja otteet lupaavat parempaa joukkueen jäljellä olevalle kaudelle.  Uusista vahvistuksista erityisesti norjalaiskeskushyökkääjä Rune Nilsen osoitti olevansa oiva vahvistus. Mies eteni suoraviivaisella pelityylillä 47 jaardia ja piti läpi ottelun joukkueensa kateissa olleen juoksu-uhan elossa. Kaikkiaan Crusaders keräsi pelissä 66 juoksujaardia, jolla koko kauden jaardit saatiin hivutettua melkein plussan puolelle. Roosters-pelin jälkeen joukkueen juoksujen saldo on -6.

Crusaders-puolustus piti Roosters-hyökkäystä tiukoilla läpi ottelun. Miles Corpening oli joukkueensa tilastokuningas 14,5 taklauksella ja kahdella TD:llään, joista toinen syntyi komeasti poimitusta rähmäyksestä ja sitä seuranneesta 85 jaardin pakomatkasta maalialueelle. Tukimiehen paikalla pelannut Henri Nordström onnistui taklauksissaan seitsemän kertaa ja nousi Crusadersin sisäisen taklauspörssin toiselle sijalle heti Miles Corpeningin jälkeen.

Roosters nousi voitollaan kuuteen pisteeseen ja kohtaa seuraavassa pelissään torstaina 7.7. Porvoon Butchersin, jonka kanssa helsinkiläiset kisaavat kauden tässä vaiheessa sarjan nelospaikasta. Crusadersilla on edessä kauden toistaiseksi tärkein peli Kotka Eaglesin saapuessa vierailulla Harjun kentälle perjantaina 8.7.

Vaahteraliiga palaa juhannustauoltaan Velodromin pelillä, jossa vastakkain sarjan vitonen ja kutonen. Helsinki Roosters isännöi United Newland Crusadersia, jonka rosteriin on ilmestynyt jälleen tukku uusia nimiä.

Helsinki Roosters (2–3) lähtee torstain vaahteraliigakamppailuun hakemaan kauden kolmatta voittoaan.  Alkukauden tappiot Steelersille, Wolverinesille ja Crocodilesille merkitsevät sitä, että voittoja on kerryttävä lisää, mikäli Vaahteraliigan kestomenestyjä haluaa taistella hyvistä playoff-asetelmista.  Helsinkiläisten ainoat voitot ovat toistaiseksi saatu sarjataulukon pohjilla olevista Eaglesista sekä Crusadersista.  Roostersin ja Crusadersin ensimmäinen kohtaaminen päättyi Lohjalla 6–42 vierasvoittoon.

Roosters on onnistunut tauon aikana saamaan pitkää poissaolijoiden listaa lyhemmäksi ja varmoina poissa pelistä ovat ainoastaan Ambro Urjanson, Henri Väänänen, Anton Svens ja Tommy Nylund.  Epävarmojen listalta löytyy yhä alkukauden ykköstykki, ranskalainen laituri Aymeric Nicault, mutta mies on kirjattu myös avauskokoonpanoon, joten back-up pelinrakentajia lukuun ottamatta peliin lähdetään rosterin ykkösmiesten johdolla.

Roostersin hyökkäyspelin suurimmat haasteet ovat alkukauden aikana löytyneet juoksupeleistä.  Otteluissa on keskimäärin edetty 75 jaardin matka kentän pintaa pitkin, joista iso osa on kerätty sarjajumboja vastaan pelatuissa peleissä.  Kahden edellisen pelin (Cro, Wol) juosten edetty matka on jaardin verran pakkasella.  Torstain vastustaja Crusaders on päästänyt vastustajan etenemään juosten keskimäärin 200,2 jaardia, joten paikka kilven kirkastamiselle on nyt.  Joukkueiden edellisessä kohtaamisessa Roosters juoksi pallon kanssa 98 jaardia 2,6 jaardin keskiarvolla.

Crusaders esittelee Velodromilla jälleen tuoreita vahvistuksia

Rosterihaasteiden parissa tuskastellut United Newland Crusaders (0-4) marssittaa torstain peliin jälleen uusia vahvistuksia.  Steelers-pelissä debyyttinsä tehneen Sandro Moreiran lisäksi Crusadersia vahvistaa kaksi tuoretta portugalilaista ja yksi norjalainen pelaaja.

Norjalainen Rune Nilsen (RB/LB) pelasi kevään Serbiassa Pozarevac Pastuvin joukkueessa. 26-vuotiaalla pelaajalla löytyy taustaa USA:n high school ja college-kentiltä sekä Norjasta Oslo Vikingsin joukkueen peleistä eri ikäluokissa.  Crusadersin depth chartissa Nilsen on merkattu kakkosketjun tukimieheksi.

Portugalilaiset João Branco ja Salvador Bolzoni tulevat Cascais Crusadersin joukkueesta. 32-vuotias Branco on merkattu rosteriin keskushyökkääjän rooliin ja 20-vuotias Bolzoni puolustuksen endiksi.

Roostersin lailla myös Crusaders on tuskailut juoksupelinsä kanssa. Joukkueen kausitilastot ovat toistaiseksi pakkasella -72 jaardia ja joukkue on keskimäärin peruuttanut yhden jaardin verran jokaisella juoksuyrityksellään.  Torstaina Velodromilla kohtaakin kaksi juoksuhyökkäyksensä kanssa tuskaillutta joukkuetta, jotka ovat heittoyritystensä määrässä liigan kärjessä.  Crusadersin Shay Netter on laittanut pallon ilmaan 116 kertaa (29krt/peli) 44 % onnistumistarkkuudella.  Roostersin Bryce Stancomben vastaavat luvut ovat 130 (26krt/peli) 51,5 %.

Torstaina ottelun käynnistyessä Helsingin Käpylään on ennustettu 28°C lämpötilaa.  Säänkestävyys voi olla tekijä, jolla on merkitystä joukkueiden pelatessa Velodromin pätsissä.  Roosters – Crusaders peli potkaistaan käyntiin  torstaina 30.6. klo 18:30.
