Crusaders - Roosters 26.05.2022

Helsinki Roosters oli odotetusti vahvempi Lohjan Harjun kentällä helatorstaina pelatussa vaahteraliigaottelussa. Vierailijat kukistivat Crusadersin lukemin 6-42 (0-14).

Crusaders aloitti pelin vahvasti eikä päästänyt Roostersia tekemään isoja pelejä. Helsinkiläishyökkäys pysäytettiin kahdesti, mutta lohjalaiset eivät itsekään onnistuneet painamaan omaa hyökkäystään pohjiin hyvistä yrityksistä huolimatta. Ensimmäinen neljännes päättyi 0-0 tasatilanteeseen.

Toisella neljänneksellä Roosters pelinrakentaja Bryce Stancombe löysi heitoillaan kahdesti Verneri Rainion maalialueelta ja vei joukkueensa 0-14 puoliaikajohtoon. Märällä nurmella pelatun ottelun edetyt jaardit pelin ensimmäisellä puoliskolla menivät niukasti vieraille 106-104.

Ottelun toisella puoliajalla kotijoukkueen pelaajien uupuessa kahden suunnan pelistään Roosters meni menojaan. Kotijoukkueen ainoan TD:n teki Nolan Corpening pelinrakentaja Shay Netterin heitosta.

Toisen polven jenkkifutari Kaasinen avasi pistetilinsä

Myös Roosters lähti peliin varsin varamiehisellä kokoonpanolla. Pelaajia puuttui rosterista kauden kolhujen takia ja osaa säästeltiin varmuudeksi sunnuntaina pelattavaa U20 loppuottelua varten. Roostersin puolustuksen linja pelasi vahvan pelin ja onnistui säkittämään Crusades-pelinrakentaja Netterin useampaan kertaan. Ottelun vakuuttavimpana pelaajana torstaina palkittu Christer Berg oli välillä kirjaimellisesti pitelemätön rynniessään väsähtäneestä Crusaders-linjasta lävitse.

Alkukauden aikana kukonpoikien juoksupelin moottorina on toiminut nuori Aatu Mikkonen. Varotoimena Mikkonen ei pelannut torstaina ja vastuuta annettiin nuorelle Henri Kaasisella ja konkari Mourad Daifille. Toisen polven jenkkifutaaja Kaasinen pääsi avaamaan ottelussa pistetilinsä Vaahteraliigassa komealla yhdeksän jaardin juoksumaalillaan.

Kaksi peliä tiiviillä rosterilla urakoineen Crusadersin pelit jatkuvat tasan viikon päästä torstaina Porvoossa Butchersin vieraana. Roosters saa kaipaamansa taukovuoron ja pelaa seuraavan kerran 10.6. Seinäjoella.

Tappiolla kautensa aloittanut United Newland Crusaders saa helatorstaina vieraita Helsingistä. Jo kaksi liigapeliä pelaamaan ehtinyt Helsinki Roosters saapuu Lohjalle nuorella rosterillaan.

Crusaders lähtee kauden ensimmäiseen kotiotteluun pääosin samalla kokoonpanolla kuin avauspeliinsä. Rosteri on edelleen tiivis ja avainpelaajille peliaikaa tulee riittämiin molemmin puolin palloa. Avaavien pelaajien listalleen lohjalaiset ovat saaneet täydennykseksi unkarilaisen Zalan Sorbanin, joka tulee vahvistamaan Crusadersin puolustusta. 20-vuotiaan Miskolc Steelersin kasvatin pelipaikkana on puolustuksen endin positio.

Crusadersn hyökkäyksen pelipäivän rosteriin on lisätty espanjalainen Barbora Rookiesista siirtyvä Samuel Aries, mutta miestä ei ole Roosters-pelissä kirjattu avauskokoonpanon listalle. Lohjalaiset tarvitsevat tehoa nimenomaan juoksuhyökkäykseensä. Avausottelussa Wolverinesia vastaan kentän pinnalla jaardeja kerättiin miinusmerkkisesti.

Crusaders-päävalmentaja Tuomas Heikkinen kommentoi joukkueensa lähtokohtia Crusaders-ennakossa näin:

-Teemme kaiken minkä voimme. Sekä pelaajat, valmentajat että taustajoukot. Pelataan joka viikko paremmin kuin edellinen

Roostersin Polley avaa kautensa torstaina?

Roosters sai avausvoitostaan annoksen itseluottamusta ja lähtee Lohjalle selkeänä ennakkosuosikkina. Helsinkiläisten hyökkäys on toistaiseksi ollut hivenen heittopainotteista ja ottelukohtainen jaardikeskiarvo ilmateitse on mukavat 226 y. Ajoituksissa ja kiinniottojen varmuudessa joukkueella on vielä parannettavaa. Kahden pelatun pelin jälkeen pelinrakentaja Bryce Stancomben heittojen onnistumisprosentti on 51,8.

Hyvänä uutisena Roosters kertoo odottavansa toisen puolustuksen takakentälle värvätyn yhdysvaltalaispelaajan kuntoutuneen pelikuntoon. Näin asiasta Roostersin otteluennakossa:

–Emory Polley oletettavasti palaa Crusaders- ottelussa kokoonpanoon ja pääse vihdoin avaamaan Vaahteraliigakautensa.

Kaudella 2021 joukueet kohtasivat toisensa kertaalleen. Harjun kentällä pelattu peli päättyi lukemiin 6 – 57 (6 – 36) ja oli Crusadersin ainoa suurinumeroinen tappio koko nousukautensa aikana.
