Crocodiles – Roosters 10.06.2022

Seinäjoki Crocodiles otti kaksi tärkeää sarjapistettä kukistamalla Helsinki Roostersin perjantai-illan vaahteraliigakamppailussa. Kotijoukkue oli ottelussa helsinkiläisiä parempi lukemin 24-12 (14-0).

Seinäjoki Crocodilesista alkaa muodostua vaikea vastustaja Roostersille.  Viime kauden lailla seinäjokiset nakuttivat tulostaululle tasan kaksi kertaa enemmän pisteitä ja sinetöivät sarjapisteet kotiin runsaslukuisen kotiyleisönsä riemuksi.  Joukkueiden etenemisjaardeissa päädyttiin varsin harvinaiseen lopputulokseen.  Molempien tilastoihin merkittiin pelistä sama lukema, 267 jaardia.

Helsinki Roosters lähti peliin vaikeasta tilanteesta. Joukkueen rosterista puuttui lähes parikymmentä miestä erinäisistä syistä ja vastuuta jouduttiin jakamaan miehistölle totutusta poikkeavalla tavalla.  Uusina miehinä joukkueeseen liittyneet hyökkäyslinjan Viktor Asklöf ja Lassi Pajarinen saivat heti peliaikaa ja vastuuta kantaakseen. Asklöfin ilta oli erityisen haastava nuoren miehen painittua Crocodiles-puolustuksen jenkkilinjamies Emmit Goodenia kanssa koko illan.

Roosters-pelinrakentaja Bryce Stancombe oli läpi pelin paineessa aina kun Crocodiles peluutti d-linjan ykkösketjuaan kentällä. Kun Croco-kolmikko Seth Zins, Emmit Gooden ja Filip Zacok olivat lepovuorossa kentän laidalla sai Stancombe aikaa heittoihin ja erityisesti ottelun viimeisen neljänneksen loppukiri käynnistyi tuosta asetelmasta. Roosters pelinrakentaja heitti ottelussa 2 touchdownia ja 268 jaardia, mutta lukemat tulostaululla ja tilaistoissa voisivat olla toisenlaiset, mikäli Roosters-laiturit olisivat olleet tarkempia kiinniotoissaan. Standcomben 33 heitosta alle puolet, eli 14 tavoitti kiinniottajan hyväksytysti.

Harvemmin Vaahteraliigassa on nähty peliä, jossa Roostersin juoksujaardit ovat olleet pakkasen puolella. Tämä harvinaisuus päästiin näkemään perjantaina, jolloin helsinkiläisten juoksutilastoihin kirjattiin lukema -1 .

Powell takaisin omille luvuilleen

Kahdessa aiemmassa pelissä tilastojen valossa vaisusti pelanut Crocodilesin keskushyökkääjä Christian Powell teki paluun tasolleen ja oli jälleen kerran kentän ykkösetenijä.  Pohjola Vakuutuksen Vakuuttavimman Pelaajan palkinnon vastaanottanut yhdysvaltalainen keräsi  illan aikana 148 juoksujaardia ja lisäksi 58 kiinniotoillaan. Kertaalleen Powell karkasi maalialueelle pallon kanssa ottelun lopulla sinetöiden joukkueensa voittolukemat. Myös pelinrakentaja Zachary Whitehead oli pelipäällä ja liikutti  palloa heitoillaan 113 jaardia ja juosten pallon kertaalleen maaliin itse.

Crocodiles-puolustuksen hahmo oli Emmit Gooden joka oli joukkueensa paras taklaaja (7kpl), säkitti vastustajan pelinrakentajan kahdesti ja kantoi rähmätyn pallon maaliin ottelun toisella neljänneksellä.  Perjantaina nähdyn perusteella voi luvata, että yhdessä Seth Zinsin kanssa Crocodiles-linjan jenkkikaksikko tulee tarjoilemaan kauden aikana vielä useasti painajaismaisia hetkiä vastustajan pelinrakentajille.

Helsinki Roostersin kausi jatkuu jo tulevana torstaina, jolloin Helsingin Velodromilla tullaan näkemään kauden ensimmäinen stadin derby Helsinki Wolverinesia vastaan. Crocodiles saa viikon päästä vieraakseen perjantaina vastaansa lukuisista kolhuista kärsineen Kotka Eaglesin.

Seinäjoki Crocodiles isännöi perjantaina vaahteraliigakierroksen ehkäpä mielenkiintoisinta ottelua. Molemmat joukkueet ovat kärsineet tappiot Kuopio Steelersille, mutta muut alkukauden pelit ovat päättyneet joukkueiden voittoon. Friday night football-pelissä tunnustellaan jo asetelmia playoff-taisteluun.

Kesäkuun käynnistyessä Seinäjoki Crocodilesilla on takana kaksi ottelua. Kotiavauksesta tuloksena niukka voitto Butchersista loppuhetkien potkumaalilla (15–13) ja Kuopion vieraspelistä tuliaisina selkeänumeroinen tappio (42–21).   Roosters avasi kautensa Steelersia vastaan tappiollisesti (20–49), mutta kaksi seuraavaa peliä sarjajumboja vastaan kartuttivat täysimääräisesti helsinkiläisten pistetiliä (Roosters-Eagles 57–6, Crusaders-Roosters 6–42). Perjantain taisteluparista Roosters rankattiin korkeammalla kauden ennakkoveikkauksissa ja joukkue on nuoren kokoonpanonsa voimin tehnyt toistaiseksi eniten pisteitä per peli toukokuun peleissään.

Roosters saa täydennystä high school kentiltä

Roosters saa perjantain peliin täydennystä Yhdysvalloista.  Kaksi lukiofutista USA:ssa pelannutta pelaajaa palaa kokoonpanoon ja nuoret miehet tuovat mukanaan lisää energiaa pitkästä poissaolijoiden listasta kärsivään rosteriin.  Floridan Orlandossa sijaitsevassa Boone high schoolissa vaihdossa ollut Lassi Pajarinen on merkitty Roostersin avauskokoonpanoon pelinrakentaja Bryce Stancombe varamieheksi, mutta tullee saamaan peliaikaa Pajariselle tutummissa keskushyökkääjän ja mahdollisesti tukimiehenkin rooleissa.

Toinen kokoonpanoon vaihdosta palaava pelaaja on hyökkäyslinjan Viktor Asklöf, jota pidetään yhtenä ikäluokkansa lupaavimmista linjamiehistä.  Asklöf pelasi high school vuotensa Veterans Memorial High Schoolissa Teksasin San Antoniossa.

Kokoonpanoon omalle pelipaikalleen ja HC Juha Hakalan mukaan täydessä pelikunnossa on nyt asettumassa myös laitahyökkääjä Johannes Jauhiainen, jonka odotetaan paikkaavan Pajarisen ja Asklöfin vastavirrassa Yhdysvaltoihin lähteneen Santtu Vehkomäen jättämää aukkoa.  Aiemmissa peleissä kovinta jälkeä Roosters-paidassa tehnyt Aymeric Nicault sekä Willem Kajander ovat niin ikään poissa perjantain vahvuudesta.

Crocodilesin näytön paikka

Seinäjoki Crocodiles on kahdessa avauspelissään kerännyt juoksujaardeja kasaan tasan 200.   Kun joukkueella on käytössään Christian Powelin kaltainen ase, voidaan lukemaa pitää vaatimattomana. Neljänä aiempana kautenaan Vaahteraliigan all-stars miehistöön valittu yhdysvaltalainen on onnistunut etenemään toistaiseksi ainoastaan 4,3 jaardin keskiarvolla, joka on rajusti alle miehen aiempien kausien keskiarvosta. Perjantain pelissä nähdään, onnistuuko seinäjokiset pelaamaan tilaa Powellin juoksuille kotikentän viheriöllä.

Crocodiles lähtee peliin edelleen kolmen miehen puolustuslinjalla. Yhdysvaltalaiskaksikko Seth Zins ja Emmit Gooden sekä Filip Zacok eivät onnistuneet edellisellä kierroksella pysäyttämään Steelersin LeAnthony Reasnoverin vyörytystä, mutta perjantaina vastassa on helsinkiläisten nuorisoketjun keskushyökkääjät.  Crocodilesin puolustuksella on mahdollisuus ottaa ratkaiseva rooli pelissä, jossa vastustajalta puuttuu useampi alkukaudesta tuloksia takonut pelaaja rosteristaan.

Klassikko-ottelu Seinäjoki Crocodiles – Helsinki Roosters pelataan perjantaina 10.6. Seinäjoen Wirokit Stadionilla. Ottelu potkaistaan vauhtiin tuttuun tapaan klo 18.30.
