Butchers - Steelers 08.08.2020

Kuopio Steelers otti kuuman väännön jälkeen suurinumeroisen voiton Porvoo Butchersista lukemin 21-48. Isäntäjoukkue Butchers taisteli ottelun ensimmäisen puoliajan tiukasti pitäen puoliaikaluvut maltillisina.

Lauantaina helteisellä Porvoon keskuskentällä pelatun ottelun ykköstykki oli Steelersin sähäkkä keskushyökkääjä Lamar Carswell. Yhdysvaltalainen juoksi kymmenellä yrityksellään 281 jaardia tehden 4 touchdownia.

Steelers-puolustuksen lukkoina toimivat hollantilainen Semmie Radji (6 taklausta), ranskalainen Max De Falcis (5,5 taklausta) sekä brittitukimies Kadel King (5 taklausta). Takakentällä pelaava yhdysvaltalais-puolalainen Tommy Kaczocha jatkaa siitä mihin viime kaudella jäi eli nappaa vastustajan heittoja kiinni. Lauantaina Kaczochalle kirjattiin kaksi syötönkatkoa.

Butchers osoitti vahvaa taisteluilmettä pitämällä ottelun tasaisena ensimmäisen puoliskon ajan. Erityisesti pelinrakentaja Jabari Harris oli pelipäällä edeten ottelussa juoksuillaan 94 jaardia. Kaksi Butchersin maaleista syntyi Harrisin juoksuista, kertaalleen pallon nappasi kiinni Mikko Seppänen. Ottelun toisella puoliajalla Jabarin tilan kentällä otettiin pois, mutta kaikkiaan Butchers keräsi hyökkäysjaardeja 327. Se on kelpo suoritus Kuopion kansainvälisistä tähdistä koottua puolustusta vastaan.

Porvoolaisten puolustuksen ahkerimmat taklaajat olivat Niklas Reinhardt (5) ja Jesse Vuoksenturja (4). Butchers on erikoistunut pelaamaan ensimmäisen puoliskon pelistä erinomaisesti, mutta noutaja tulee toisella. Joukkueen ykköslaituri Seppänen tiivistää, miten jatkossa hyvät alut käännetään voitoiksi.

Kahden sarjakierroksen jälkeen Kuopio Steelers on sarjan kärjessä puhtaalla pelillään. Joukkue on vahvistumassa edelleen kolmannella jenkkipelaajalla tukimies AJ Wentlandin liittyessä joukkueeseen. Butchers on sarjan hännillä nollakerhossa yhdessä Helsinki Roostersin kanssa. Joukkueet kohtaavat tulevana torstaina Helsingin Velodromilla.

Lauantaina Porvoossa kohtaavat tämänhetkinen sarjan savolainen ennakkosuosikki Steelers sekä Butchers, jolle useimmat povaavat kaudella altavastaajan roolia otteluissaan.

Vaahteraliiga 2020 on osoittanut lähes jokaisessa pelissä, että ennakkokaavailut voi heittää roskakoriin pelin käynnistyessä. Butchersin avausottelu Vaasassa osoitti, että päivän kotijoukkue on parhaimmillaan yllätysvalmis ja tulivoimainen hyökkäykseltään. Peli rakentuu pelinrakentaja Jabari Harrisin valintojen ympärille, mutta hänellä on rinnallaan pelaajia, joiden kapasiteetti riittää voittavan jenkkifutiksen pelaamiseen. Butchers lähtee kotiotteluunsa pitkälti samalla miehistöllä kuin Vaasassa pelattiin.

Steelers panostaa kauteen tosissaan

Porvoossa Butchersia vastaan asettuu Kuopio Steelers, joka on kesän aikana hankkinut lisää vahvistuksia rosteriinsa ja pelaa poikkeuksellista vaahteraliigakautta peräti 12 ulkomaalaisen vauhdittamana (joista Peters ja Marshall asuvat Suomessa pysyvämmin). Ensimmäisestä kierroksen rosteriin on lisätty karenssiottelunsa kärsineet hyökkäyksen linjan Lane Acheampong sekä takapuolustaja Max De Falcis. Joukkueen tuorein vahvistus, tähtitukimies AJ Wentland ei pue vielä Porvoossa, mutta muutoin keskuskentällä tullaan näkemään tuhti nippu osaamista ja vauhtia.

Ottelun ennakkosuosikkia ei tarvitse arvuutella, mutta pelaamme poikkeuksellista kautta, joka on osoittautunut paitsi viihdyttäväksi, myös ennakkokaavailuja halveksivaksi. Ottelu Porvoon Keskuskentällä käynnistyy klo 16.30. Butchersin tukija Porvoon Energia tarjoaa ottelun liput katsojille, mutta paikkoja on varattu rajoitetusti.
