Steelers - Crocodiles 24.07.2021

Vaahteraliigan hallitseva mestari Kuopio Steelers (5-0) otti lauantaina kotikentällään vakuuttavan voiton Seinäjoki Crocodilesista (2-3). Joukkueiden tämän kauden toinen kohtaaminen päättyi lukemiin 31-13 (17-7).

Crocodilesin edellinen vierailu Väinölänniemelle antoi lupauksia joukkueen mahdollisuudesta haastaa mestarit avaavan pelinrakentajansa avulla. Lauantain pelissä Steelers ei antanut vierailijoille mahdollisuutta yllätykseen oikeastaan missään vaiheessa.

Linjapelaamisen ylivoimaa

Steelers lähti otteluun ilman pelikieltoaan lusivaa ykköslaituria Jeff Alexandrea. Pelisuunnitelma oli rakennettu juoksupainotteiseksi ja huikeaa kautta pelaava LeAnthony Reasnover kiitti vastuusta juoksemalla pallon kanssa 249 jaardia ja kaksi touchdownia.

Steelers on tällä hetkellä ylivoimainen joukkue vahvan linjapelaamisensa ansiosta. Hyökkäyslinja antaa pelinrakentaja Joey Bradleylle aikaa tehdä rauhallisia ratkaisuja eikä esimerkiksi lauantaina Bradleytä säkitetty kertaakaan. Seinäjokiset onnistuivat taklaamaan pallonkantajan aloituslinjan takana ainoastaan kahdesti.

Kuopiolaisten puolustuslinja antoi painetta vastustajan pelinrakentajalle jatkuvalla syötöllä ja onnistui säkityksissä kahdesti. Linjan takana taklauksia kertyi viisi kappaletta. Ilman Seinäjoen pelinrakentajan nopeita jalkoja säkityksiä olisi kertynyt useampia. Mikäli kukaan haluaa ottaa jatkossa pisteitä Steelersiltä, täytyy puolustuslinja Semmie Radji, Ikeem Allen, Jani lindqvist ja Timi Tuominen saada kuriin. Lauantaina kuopiolaisten puolustajista maalintekovuorossa oli Semmie Radji 20 jaardin rähmäyksen maaliin kannollaan.

Crocodiles lähti voittamaan peliä

Seinäjoki Crocodiles lähti tosissaan haastamaan Steelersia uuden pelinrakentajansa innoittamana. Kovaksi heittäjäksi kehutun Zack Greenleen vaahteraliigaura ei käynnistynyt parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla. Miehen ensimmäisellä downillaan heittämä lähes 50 jaardinen pallo pääty oman laiturin sijaan Steelersin Adel Bafdilen hyppysiin. Greenlee ei kuitenkaan jäänyt murehtimaan aloitustaan, vaan onnistui pelin alussa johtamaan Crocodilesin johtoon toisella hyökkäysvuorollaan. Kaikkiaan Greenlee heitti pelissä 31 kertaa. 14 heitoista päätyi omien pelaajien haltuun ja kahdesti tuloksena oli touchdown. Kaksi kertaa vastustajan takapuolustajat onnistuivat katkaisemaan syötön. Jaardeja Crocojen heittopeli keräsi yhteensä 183.

Steelerin puolustusfrontin vahva peli jätti Christian Powellin lauantaina 61 jaardiin ja miehen illan ainoa TD syntyi heittopelistä. Toinen heitto-td:ssä onnistunut croco oli Benjamin Plu.

Crocodilesin puolustuksen onnistuja lauantaina oli tuttuun tapaan Jaska Värinen, joka keräsi pelissä huikeat 11,5 taklausta, joista 8 soolona.

Kuopio Steelers ja Seinäjoki Crocodiles kohtaavat jo toiseen kertaan kesän aikana. Steelers oli edellisessä ottelussa parempi lukemin 38-24. Nyt Crocodiles on saanut tuoreen pelinrakentajan pelaavaan rosteriin ja valmistautuu ryöstöretkelle.

Kuopio Steelers on pelannut lähes virheetöntä jenkkifutista, jossa voitot on haettu rutiinisuorituksin ilman suurempia kikkailuja. Ainoastaan heinäkuun alun Crocodiles-pelissä joukkueen suoritustaso romahti hetkelliseesti, mutta voitto otettiin tuolloinkin vahvan rutiinin avulla. Crocodiles on tarponut läpi vaikean alkukauden pääosin avaavan pelinrakentajan loukkaantumisen takia. Lauantain pelissä seinäjokiset esittelevät yleisölle Zack Greenleen, jonka pelinrakennustaidoista on kiinni Crocodilesin loppukauden kurssi.

Kuopiossa kotikentän taikaa

Kuopio Steelers on ollut voittamaton kotikentällään Väinölänniemellä vuosikaudet. Joukkueen edellinen kotitappio on kesältä 2018 jolloin Roosters kukisti kuopiolaiset heinäkuisessa pelissä lukemin 30–56. Voittokulku on jatkunut tälläkin kaudella ja sekä lauantain vastustaja Crocodiles kuin viikon takainen Wolverines ovat saaneet poistua Kuopiosta tappio niskassaan. Pelkästään jo kotikentän taian takia Steelers on ottelun ennakkosuosikki.

Steelersin ykköstykki alkukauden peleissä on ollut keskushyökkääjä LeAnthony Reasnover, joka on edennyt juosten 138,5 jaardin ottelukohtaisella keskiarvolla ja tehnyt kahdeksan joukkueensa touchdowneista. Reasnoveria on säestänyt Tuukka Lehtonen, joka on kerännyt roolissaan keskimäärin komeat 82,5 juoksujaardia ottelua kohden. Jo toista kertaa tänä kesänä Tuukka valmistautuu kohtaamaan vanhemman veljensä Veikan, jonka roolina vastustajan riveissä on pysäyttää juoksupelejä linjan keskeltä.

Crocodiles uskoo uuteen pelinrakentajaansa

Crocodiles marssittaa kentälle 26-vuotiaan Zack Greenleen, jota suitsutetaan seuran omassa otteluennakossa näin:

-Pelinrakentaja on julmakätinen linko, joka on Prahassa kuuleman mukaan paiskonut palloa 60 jaardia vastatuuleen ja juurikin sinne minne pitääkin.

Seinäjokiset ovat joutuneet pelaamaan kolme viimeistä otteluaan vaihdellen miehitystä joukkueen tärkeimmällä pelipaikalla ja se ei ole voinut olla näkymättä tuloksissa. Crocojen voitot ovat tulleet peleissä Royalsia ja Wolverinesia vastaan, mutta erityisesti tuore tappio Botnia Bowlissa sekä viimeisin vierailu Väinölänniemellä kesäkuussa nostattavat tavallaan uudelleen kautensa aloittavassa joukkueessa kasvavaa taisteluhenkeä.

Mikäli julmakätinen linko, Greenlee saa pallon lentämään perille vihreäpaitaisille vastaanottajilleen, tulee keskushyökkääjä Christian Powell saamaan tilaa juoksuilleen ja kuopiolaisten puolustuksen boxi joutuu ensi kertaa tällä kaudelle todelliselle koetukselle.
